Should Afroman be Reprimanded for Punching Female Fan?

BILOXI, MS - Joseph Edgar Foreman, better known as his stage name, Afroman, punched a female fan during a performance. He was arrested and is expected to face assault charges. Some of his future planned venues have cancelled his performances and Afroman has since apologized. However, I think this incident brings a few valid points and questions surrounding security and self-defense during a live show. Here is the video of the incident, because God knows we have footage of everything these days!!

On the surface, I'm sure many of you have put together a negative opinion about Afroman's actions, but before you get too opinionated I have two words for you....Dimebag Darrell.

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and the unfortunate incident that surrounded his untimely demise should hypothetically end every argument ever made against performers who defend themselves against uninvited fans who walk onstage during a performance.

On December 8th, 2004, guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott along with 4 others were shot and killed during a Damageplan performance in Columbus, Ohio. (Abbott was more noted as the guitarist for heavy-metal band Pantera). the shooter, 25 year-old Nathan Gale, murdered a total of five people including a fan and a bodyguard for Damageplan and wounded 3 others in the process before a police officer shot and killed Gale. Gale had no known beef with the group or Darrell specifically, however, family members and friends say he was a fan of Damageplan and their previous moniker Pantera.

With those things in mind, Afroman should NOT be held accountable for his actions, face criminal charges or even have to apologize, it's one thing to invite a fan onstage and assault them, it's a whole 'nother to defend yourself. -EE
