8 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Sylvester Stallone

I'm sure I would have to argue this fact with a lot of people, but to me, it is without question that the greatest action movie star of my generation is Sylvester Stallone.

One the best attributes that I've always admired about Stallone, is that he always seems so down to earth, like a blue collar guy with $400 million dollars (yes, that is Stallone's net worth). He's never been in trouble, or shamed in the media, he's just an all around good guy with a knack for making great action films. And even though Sly has been consistently famous since the 70's, it's hard to believe, especially for me, that there are so many things I, and I'm sure many others, don't know about him that would likely surprise you, here are 8 of them.

1.Stallone was Born Looking Tough (literally!)

Stallone was born on July 6th, 1946, thanks to a rough-handed medical intern. The forceps used to drag Stallone from the womb by his tiny baby face, severed the facial nerves in his eyelid and lips, which oddly enough gave him his trademark sneer.

2. The Real Reason Why Stallone Hated Arnold Schwarzenegger

Was it Arnold's muscles? Was it his political aspirations? Did his mom make a better bowl of chili than Stallone's mama?

No, it was never any of those.

It was competition, Stallone himself stated that the dislike between the two turned to venomous hatred after Schwarzenegger released Commando the same year that Stallone dropped the first of many Rambo sequels, Stallone felt there was a number of similarities between the two films, and felt that Arnold was trying to copy him, as opposed to competing with him.

Schwarzenegger didn't appreciate the jab from Stallone, and followed that up by releasing Predator around the same time Rambo 3 came out.

In the end, they both had huge egos and would ended up shaking hands once they realized that probably the biggest reason they hated each other was because in truth, they were huge admirers of each other, and it was their hate for each other that caused both of them to keep pushing the envelope farther and farther, and the result? Great films for everyone to enjoy.

3. Stallone In a Soccer Movie?

In 1981, Stallone was featured in a film where he was a German war prisoner during the 2nd World War, but the main focus of the film was an upcoming exhibition soccer game that put the P.O.W.s against an all German team. Stallone refused the offer of a stunt double citing that he didn't need one just for being a sissy goalie in a sissy sport. During the filming of the soccer match, Stallone dislocated his shoulder, cracked several ribs and learned a valuable lesson on assuming things. He's now a dedicated soccer fan and even owns part of European soccer team.

4. Rambo (2008) Holds the Guinness World Record as Being the Most Violent Movie Ever Made

So how did this film get such a distinction? By featuring 356 acts of violence along with 278 deaths, basically that averages out to two-and-a-half dead people every minute.

And which film is the 2nd most violent film ever made? The Rambo movie that preceded this one.

5. Statuesque

Remember the Rocky statue presented to the city of Philadelphia in Rocky 3? It still stands just as great as it did in the acclaimed film.

After Rocky 3, the statue was donated to the city, which upset many people because of the validity of its importance (or lack thereof) to a prestigious museum. Which lead to it's move to the front of the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, it was later moved back to the bottom of the Philadelphia museum where it once stood and still stands.

6. Stallone Auditioned for the Role of Han Solo (sort of)

Obviously, things didn't work for him in the Star Wars universe, but what made matters worse was how the audition panned out. Stallone recently told the story of the audition to Jimmy Fallon in a Tonight Show interview.

According to Stallone...George Lucas and his producers, admittedly exhausted after a full day of auditions, seemed to dislike him for the part right from the start. He made things simple by cutting them off before he even started reading......"Let me just make it easy for you, I would look like crap in spandex leotards and a ray gun. Guys in space don't have this face, I get it," Stallone told Lucas, and walked out.

7. He Married Brigitte Nielsen

Actor Sylvester Stallone and actress Brigitte Nielsen attend a performance of the Broadway play 'Cuba & His Teddy Bear' on August 20, 1986 at the Longacre Theatre in New York City.

Hardcore Stallone fans likely know this fact, but in case you didn't know, Stallone met Brigitte Nielsen on the set of Rocky IV, which was the most controversial Rocky film because of its reference to the Cold War. Nielsen portrayed Ludimilla Vobet Drago, the wife of the film's main antagonist Ivan Drago. During filming, Stallone became so infatuated with Nielsen that he left his wife of ten years and married Nielsen only months after filming completed. They divorced only 2 years later.

8. Stallone is Filming Another "Last Rambo Film" and Some Other Sequels to Some of His Biggest Films.

Stallone made an announcement in 2014 that he finished a script for another Rambo film. He was recently got the go-ahead and principal filming is expected to start sometime in 2016.

He's also taking his 6th turn as Rocky Balboa in Creed, which is being released next week in theaters worldwide.

Expendables 4 is also in the making and has an August 2017 release date.
