Prince, Dead at 57

Iconic rock musician Prince has passed away, his publicist confirmed to the Associated Press. He was 57 years old.

Police and EMTs responded to a 911 call at his Paisley Park studio on Thursday. Sheriffs in Chanhassen, Minnesota report there was one fatality.

Last week, Prince had been briefly hospitalized after suffering from the flu, which caused him to land his private jet to make an emergency landing in Moline, IL. His passing comes just two months after the passing of one of his former proteges, Vanity, also 57.

Real name, Prince Rogers Nelson, the flamboyant and never boring musician rose to super-stardom after his breakthrough albums Dirty Mind and 1999, along with his film Purple Rain and it's wildly successful soundtrack.

Prince performed and wrote many Top 40 singles and wrote songs for a number of other artists including the Bangles and Sinead O' Connor among many others.

For a short time, Prince went by a symbol rather than a name, and was temporarily known as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince."

Prince was married and divorced twice, and had a young son that passed away shortly after being born.

Let us not consume ourselves with how he died, let us embrace and celebrate how he lived.* -EE
